What is cellulite?
Cellulite consists of abnormal deposition of fat in the subcutaneous tissues resulting into dimpling of the skin. It is largely seen in women and only requires treatment only cosmetic reasons. Cellulite affects men and women of all weight ranges and of all ages.
How is cellulite formed?
· The skin contains some inelastic bands of connective tissue that run deep down from the skin to the muscles.
· Genetic, hormonal and factors like lack of physical activity coupled with improper diet favor the deposition of fat in areas around the hip, thigh and buttocks.
· The fat bulges out of the skin surface while the connective tissue strands pull the skin to keep it in place leading to the dimpled effect on the skin.
· This is exacerbated by the poor circulation of blood and the accumulation of toxins , waste products and water in the body.
How do essential oils work in treatment of cellulite?
· When used for massage, they are absorbed and begin to break down excessive cellulite and increase the pore size of the small blood vessels beneath the skin.
· This in turn improves circulation and increases the blood flow to the affected areas causing a flushing action of the waste and toxic products accumulated in the body (cellulite).
· The massaging action also generates heat that helps in lysis of fat
· By removing the dead cells, a good massage will improve the skin tone which itself reduces the appearance of cellulite
Carrier oils are important when using aromatherapy. Not only do they have a nourishing effect but some Essential oils for cellulite can be irritating when applied directly to the skin. Especially for those who have sensitive skin. Carrier oils allow the essential oil to be massaged, rather than being absorbed too quickly. When it comes to cellulite and the use of essential oils - you must apply by massage to get the best results (don't just wipe the oils over the skin)
